Numerology is a very ancient practice used by Pythagoras, based on the concept that all is number and numbers give off vibrations.
Words can be transformed in numbers since each letter has a numerical value.
Then our name can be translated in number and we will be under its influence for all our life.
If for instance during our life we use different names or a short name, we will be under the influence of different vibrations. Besides, there are cycles ruling our life and these can be reckoned by numbers. Everyone has his personal cycles and numbers. By numerology we can better realize the events in anybody’s life.

Especially as you are not familiar with numerology at all here is a brief recap:
Numerology is based on mathematical formulas that have rarely been tinkered with over the ages. The theory is that every name and every birth date can be reduced down to a single number.
These numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 22.
Each of these numbers is reduced down to a single digit. This reduction of a name down by omitting vowels or consonants to a symbol is a contemporary way of making a sigil.
In this case the sigil is usually a single digit number that represents different aspects of a person's character and destiny. Although numerology has been practiced for centuries, in modern times it really does have some practical applications particularly if you are interested in some psychological self-investigation. It can also be used to predict high and lows in your life as well as determine what makes you (and others) tick. Perhaps its greatest value is in its capacity to help you assess your personal strengths and weaknesses as well as provide you with an intuitive snapshot of another person's traits.
At the very least, learning numerology is an amusing game; it's most important trait is a revelatory metaphysical science that can provide you with great insights and maybe even a way of making a living!! Numerology is the easiest of the occult arts and is easy to understand and use. All that is needed is the birth date and the complete name of an individual to unlock all of the secrets that the numbers hold and then the future course of the individual can be derived from it.
There are eleven numbers used in constructing Numerology charts. These numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 22. Larger numbers that occur from adding the numbers in the complete birth date or from the values assigned to each name are reduced by adding the digits together until the sum achieved is one of the core numbers. Merely add the components of the larger number together (repeatedly, if necessary) until a single digit (or the "master" numbers 11 or 22) results. Each of this number represents different characteristics and expressions.
Master number is the only exception to rule of reducing to the single digit. The master numbers 11 and 22 are intensified versions of the single digit number they replace (2 and 4). These numbers suggest a potential for a high degree of learning and/or achievement very often in a more stressful environment. In many individuals, the master numbers operate at a much more tangible or practical level, becoming essentially the same as the single digit parallel.
The first consideration of numerology is often the date of birth. This date, expressed numerically, as mm/dd/yyyy, is used to determine what is called the Life path Number and a variety of other factors in the numerology reading.
